What solutions have been put in place to fight the epidemic in 2015 by the microfinance sector?

Five years ago, ADA invited an MFI that was facing a health crisis to discuss the financial consequences.

The 30th edition of Midi de la microfinance dealt with a very sensitive subject: the Ebola crisis. We were able to attend the presentation of two exceptional guests from Guinea, Aboubacar-Demba Sankhon and Lamarana Sadio Diallo, respectively Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Crédit Rural de Guinée SA, accompanied by the representative of the Institut de recherches et d'applications des méthodes de développement, Gilles Goldstein. All three came to testify about the impact of the epidemic on the most important microfinance institution in Guinea.

The conference was organized on February 26, 2015, with the support of the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action and the InFiNe.lu network, and in collaboration with the Banque de Luxembourg and the IRAM consultancy firm.

What solutions were then put in place to combat the epidemic at the time by the microfinance sector? Can we draw inspiration from them to put in place solutions today for the crisis linked to COVID-19?

As a reminder, the MFI Crédit Rural de Guinée also won the 6th European Microfinance Prize organized around the theme: "Microfinance in post-natural disaster, post-conflict areas and fragile states".
